There wasn't much to be done; his luck had finally run out.
The storyteller had already made a deal with a goddess with some very strict ideas about returning. He'd avoided her once using some different methods. She would not allow it to happen again.
But she understood the depths of his need and the need of those he would save.
The goddess gave the storyteller the best she could while still remaining herself. The storyteller didn't love the form this miracle took; but it was a damn sight better than nothing.
